I wrote the content on these pages to be used by friends who needed some help fixing up their computer.  I seem to be doing this a lot lately and thought this would be a good solution to send people to, especially if I can't be around to walk you through the process.  Enjoy!

Performance Tuning


1. This page has "registry tweaks" that will fine-tune the performance of your system.
   
   To apply these settings, right-click on a "xxx.reg" link and choose "Save File As" or "Save Link As" to download the file.  Then locate and start the desired file to receive the following prompt:
   
   
   
   Answer "Yes" and you will receive the confirmation:
   
   
   
   This tells you that the setting was applied successfully.

2. Apply all of the registry tweaks in this section:
   
   Disable error reporting
   Enable UDMA-66
   Improved DNS caching
   Improved TCPIP priorities
   Set quick menu display rate
   Speed up My Computer browsing
   Speed up Windows shutdown
   Speed up Windows startup

3. If you have 512 MB or more of system memory (RAM, not Hard Drive space), then apply these settings:
   
   Disable core-kernal from being paged
   Increase worker threads for applications

4. If you use broadband internet (DSL, cable, satellite, T1, etc.), apply this setting.  Do not use it for dial-up connections:
   
   Mmaximize broadband thoroughput
